You often would have heard the term “Big Brother is watching you”. This particular term originated in George Orwell’s “1984”. Orwell wrote 1984 in the year 1949, describing a future totalitarian society.

1984 is considered as one of the classics as the style, pattern and the stages of the character resemble too much with a real human. For today’s societies, there is a lot to learn and inherit from Newspeak (the ficticious language in the book’s world).

Roots of Tyranny exist among the masses

A revolution can bring forth one of the two things: prosperity or disparity. For 1984, the world is in disparity as it is controlled by a totalitarian leader named Big Brother.

The mindset of the masses towards their supremo is the most influential thing. The happenings and the various whereabouts of the masses depend on what they think of their leader. As in the world of 1984, the masses are silent about their rebellious thoughts as they being watched by “Big Brother” and his band 24/7.

Actions are the results of your reaction

As the various characters in the book are in the control of the Government, the fewer ones who rebel or think of raising their concern are shunted. Their voices and ideas are fermented and they are taken away from the masses, to a world unknown.

For the real world, in some parts of the world, the folks who try to raise their philosophy which is against that of the government are criticised, punished or jailed. Though the conditions of the rebels in the book and in reality are different, they resemble the ill-wills of the supremo.

For those silent, are faithful

People who adhere to the orders and have the same tone as that of the leader are rewarded and are in good terms. This is the exact opposite of those who are not.

For citizens of the Earth, the conditions are much similar. In some parts of the world, masses who are in good accordance with the government or leaders have a great output from their activities. This is not the same as those who are critical of the activities and whereabouts of the government.

Unity brings victory

The most resembling aspect of the book and reality is the idea of Unity.
1984’s totalitarian world would have collapsed if the masses would have united. But Orwell chose not to unite the ideas and the minds of the masses.

Whereas, in reality, there have been happenings when the unity of the masses has resulted in the collapse of the empires.

1984 & the world

The popularity of this book has alarmed people around the globe that the happenings in the book are a possibility in the future. Be it the Yellow Vest movement or the Arab Spring, there are more critical and mass events approaching the nations in the near future.

Orwell’s critical writing has made a world of better informed and ideally sharper citizens. The lessons from 1984 have made the minds and the ideology of the masses more alarming and vigilante.
