Metal Music Industry Scene in India

We all want to live our good old days, want to recollect the old memories, want to watch old movies, but want our old music back.

72% of sales in the music industry in India are by Filmy or Movie Music. Movies have now dominated the music industry. The movie music industry has now become synonymous with the Indian music industry. The rise and fall of the movies in years have not affected the impact of their music. Movies fail, but their music doesn’t.

This is what the power music attains. It cannot impress, motivate and attract people. Be it anyone listening to any genre, music generates a sense of belongingness that connects the listener to their heart and soul. I wrote the lyrics; the music composed and the melody to the writings make songs an essential tool for our entertainment, etc.

Music in India has now become more of a business motive rather than a mode to connect with people. We now restrict the importance of music in India to Bollywood and other movie industries.
It was during the 1960s when The Beatles came to India, which resulted in the rise of bands during that era. ‘Rock and Jazz’ music in India saw an upliftment as cities like Shillong, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, etc naming a few, witnessed a rise in the number of bands. There were special events dedicated to music that were attended in large numbers. The impact of international musicians was very heavy on the rising bands of India. These bands have played a vital role to shape and mold the music that we listen to today. Soon in the late ‘80s and mid-‘90s, with a decline in the usage of radio and introducing Television, the popularity of bands in India was declining. Though there are bands that still exist and cannot attract people the limelight they should get is what they’re thriving for. Even now genres like Rock and Metal have many bands under their umbrellas, but the exposure which they get is very limited.

We are highly influenced by bands from western countries, but it is not the same case with Indian bands. Bands like Parikrama, Coshish, Peepal Tree amongst others have achieved success and also made a heavy impact on people around the globe, but there still exists a bridge that cannot connect bands and people of India. Mainstream media hardly cover tours or show news about bands.

People now have to change their taste from Filmy music to Bands of India.

Music speaks when words fail

Bands that have made Metal Genre popular in India are Demonic ResurrectionBhayanak MautKryptosMrityu Dand and so on. There have been bands that have made metal music in India, but what they have failed to garner is the attention of the mass.

With hardly any exposure in the mainstream industry, Metal Scene in India has been a very dominant genre among the fans. Metalheads from across India look up to several Indian Metal Bands as their inspiration and an opportunity to explore more on this genre.

The Indian music industry needs a change or to put it correctly it needs to be modernized. The quality of music and writing in Metal is most creative and informative as compared to other genres.

Edit: Metal was the most explored music genre of 2018. As a genre of music expanding throughout the globe, we still have a lack of attention towards Metal music and the bands producing metal music in India.

Heavy Metal Music in India needs more research and exploration. Indian heavy Metal Music is on the rise and needs more attention from the masses.
